03/03/2008
Manfred Moelgg, Slalom World Champion
Manuela Moelgg, Runner-up in the Giant Slalom
Elisabeth Goergl, 3rd place in the giant slalom and runner-up in the SuperG

Padua, March 2008 – This year’s final races of the 2007/2008 Ski World Cup were held in Bormio, in Valtellina, in a climate of great enthusiasm and celebrations for the athletes of the CARRERA SKI RACING TEAM, which during the season notched up a remarkable series of victories, taking CARRERA helmets and goggles to the highest steps of the most prestigious podia.

And what a championship it has been for Manfred Moelgg, newly-crowned slalom world champion: after a fantastic start clinching 3rd place in the men’s slalom at Reiteralm (Switzerland), he went on to clock up one victory after another: 2nd and 3rd place in the Bad Kleinkirchheim giant and slalom, respectively, followed by second place in the slalom in Garmisch and another runner-up placement in the Kranjska Gora giant slalom, where he masterfully took the championship title on 9th March at the end of two flawless rounds of slalom.

More great results were achieved by Italian skier Manuela Moelgg, who earned herself the runner-up position in the giant slalom, a perfect end to a year of outstanding results, such as her 2nd place in Maribor, 3rd place in Panorama (Canada) and 2nd place in Bormio.

Austrian Elisabeth Goergl also had a remarkable season and after winning the slalom in Maribor and clinching 2nd place in the giant slalom in Spindleruv Mlyn (Czech Republic), she closed the season with a 3rd place in the giant slalom and 2nd place in the superG.

The other triumphant results of the season included the two second places obtained by Swede Jens Byggmark, who put on a good show in the Bad Kleinkirchheim slalom and that held on 12th January in Wengen.

Austrian Michael Walchhofer confirmed his title as king of the downhill discipline, taking the top podium in Beaver Creek (Colorado) on 30th November and the Italian pistes of Val Gardena on 15th December.

Great satisfaction was also brought by Austrian Mario Matt, a newcomer to the team, who was runner-up in the Beaver Creek giant slalom and absolute winner of the slalom in the Swiss resort of Adelboden, and the special in Zagabria.

The slalom discipline also brought fortune to Swiss-born Marc Berthod who came third in the giant held in La Villa in Alta Badia and first place in the Adelboden fixture on 5th January.

Anja Paerson was a hit in St. Moritz, Switzerland, where she won both the downhill event on 15th December and the SuperG on Sunday 16th and in Crans Montana, where she dominated the slalom section to take third place in the Super Combined table.

Last but not least, we bid farewell to Alexandra Meissnitzer, who in the past has taken the Carrera Ski Racing Team to important victories and who this year decided to leave the slopes after 15-year career studded with international successes and a remarkable 3rd place in Bormio.

CARRERA helmets and goggles, essential for athletes’ safety during their outstanding performances, accompanied the CARRERA SKI RACING TEAM in all their events.
